Here at the Board of Community Health Councils in Wales (the board), we support CHCs to find out what people think about their NHS services. This includes what’s working well, what could be better, and what people think about plans to change NHS services.

We do this by setting standards and providing help and guidance to underpin the way CHCs carry out their activities. We monitor and manage how well CHCs carry out their activities.

Where CHCs across Wales want to raise an issue about the NHS that affects people in all parts of Wales, we will do this on their behalf.

Locally and nationally, we have the power to make sure that those in charge of the NHS in Wales hear people’s views and experiences of healthcare.

People in Wales know that they can share their views and experiences of the NHS easily and recognise that doing so can have a real influence on the shape of healthcare services.

People are increasingly understanding of and value the role played by Community Health Councils in supporting them to be heard and in representing the collective interests of patients and the public.

There are 7 CHCs in Wales; each one represents the “patient and public voice” in a different part of Wales.

Our Complaints Advocacy Service helps people who want to raise a concern about NHS care or treatment.
